After-School Center for Children at Risk
The children at the center are in grades 4-8. Their parents may be physically or emotionally disabled, in prison, on drugs, involved in prostitution, or in some other way unable to care for their children during the day. The children arrive at the center right after school and stay there until the evening, arriving home mainly to sleep. The children’s main need is a personal relationship with a positive role model.
The Project
Through Aleh, UPS employees have adopted the children of the center and are personally involved with them. For the past two years, company employees arrive at the center twice a week to spend time with the children. They develop and adapt their activities to the children’s preferences and the employees’ areas of expertise. There are also shared special events between the children and the entire company, such as fun days, Purim parties, birthdays and other events.
